We are spending £60 per month on electricty and £40 per month gas. both on pre payment with British Gas.

Live within a 2 bed flat which has double glacing and cavity wall insulation.

Should I be sweating at paying this per month as not sure. £15 a week for electricty seems a lot, but then again is this the average?

EDF: Energy Assist:
Single rate prepayment meter: 3.01p daily standing charge and 12.41p unit rate.

British Gas: Tier 1 : 25.780 Tier 2: 12.540

So how can EDF save me if they charge higher that Tier 2 and 1 on British Gas? The compare site says I could save.

That gas payment seems a little low for these winter months.

Use the gas fire in the living room. Hardly uses the Gas. Only put on central heating on to take chill off the pipes esp when the temp outside means burst pipes etc

It's pre payment we have within here.
  • Careful - some gas fires use more than you think.

When I moved in to my property I ran the gas fire for an hour to check if it was a guzzler - turns out it was. Never used it and when I decorated, changed for an efficient one. Still don't use it!

Do you use your gas for hot water as well? One common way of eating up your gas (especially in summer) is by having your hot water temperature set too high. You should be looking at no more than around 60-65'c. Every degree above 60 increases the amount of gas used to heat by 10% - a massive amount for something you would hardly notice.

You appear to be using a lot of electricity if you heat and hot water the property by gas, around 7,200 kWh pa?
    Post your annual usage.

There is a electric shower which when went in put the weekly bill in and the gas went down. We have a combi- boiler system. We noted the amount on the meter and used the fire for an hour then noted again. Done the same for the central heating and this used more money, a lot more in fact.
