On ESA or still Income Support?

Hi all

I'm wondering if anyone can tell me how you will know if you are on Income Support still or moved to ESA. I care for someone who has gone in for 2 medicals since 2008, most recent one being last year November. With all that has been on the news we are concerned that he is going to have to go through all of the stress again. I know that if he is still on Income Support then it is inevitable that it will happen again but think it's odd that he's been in twice since they brought this in (or have I got that wrong)! We are not worried about the whole thing itself because of his disability & situation but just like to be prepared for these things. :)

    Hi all

    Do you mean incapacity benefit?
Ring the number on the latest letter.
Alternatively, what are the exact weekly payments?
  • His has always said Income Support. He's been getting it since he was 18 I think & also gets DLA at the lower rate if I remember correctly. The weekly amount is £96.35 a week.

    Tenth Anniversary
If they are receiving IS because of Incapacity then they will be transferred to ESA some time over the next 2 1/2 years assuming they don't qualify for a State Pension before them.

It is likely, but not certain that they will have to attend a medical. It will depend on what they put on their ESA50 questionnaire, any evidence they provide, and there existing medical reports for IS.

Check the reference on his bank payments - it will be his NI number along with letters referring to the benefit in question.

He should get a letter saying 'you have been moved from IS to ESA'.

That'll be the best indication I would imagine.
