I was informed today the British Gas offer a £120 discount to those on Income Support. Can anybody confirm?

Does it still take in to account the income of the house or soley based on Income Support?

Thanks

  • There are a number of threads on this matter, buddy. have a look. In the meantime, have a look at this.

If you have the time to do so, give British Gas a call. There is a designated number and they'll go through the checklist/criteria.

I remember them saying something about the 'broader' criteria and there is an income cut off at £16,041.....'I THINK'.

    You need to have

Income Support AND a child under 5

    OR

Income Support AND receive Child Tax Credit, Disability Premium, or Pensioner Premium.

There are other rules - I think BG probably offer the best deal on this one, but I'm prepared to be proved wrong!

how can that be a deal by British Gas. the warm home discount scheme is basically a means tested credit which as long as you qualify by virtue of certain state benefits is paid into your electricity account in mar/apr of next year and for the next 3 years as long as you continue to qualify.

all 6 energy companies simply administer the scheme on behalf of the government so its not a discount.

We can argue over the terminology, but the official title is Warm Homes Discount, so calling it anything else - even if actually more accurate - is confusing to some customers.

The CORE group is universal, but each supplier has been able to negotiate eligibility for the BROADER group with OFGEM. Hence BG have slightly different rules to the others and have not - thus far - imposed a cap on the numbers eligible for the wider group, unlike other suppliers.

I'd need to run figures to work it out, but I think that this is perhaps a slightly better deal from the ogres at BG, amazingly enough.

The WHD is exactly the same for all the big 6. B Gas has tried to make out they are doing it better than the others but its not!

The WHD is NOT the same for all suppliers. Only the Core group is. The Broader group is different as suppliers were allowed to decide on this.
