Jessops - Sold me refurbished/off-display SLR as brand-new.

I recently purchased a Nikon D5100 digital SLR camera from Jessops on Queen Victoria St in Reading. While still under 14 days of purchased, I charged it up to click few snaps. I noticed its battery drained considerably faster than Nikon specifications. I walked into the store to ask for refund or replace it with identical item. However the staff refused to do so saying that the came is now "used" hence no refund/replacement.
They also said battery is not covered under guarantee but they can still sent it to be looked at a repair centre.
I'm totally shocked as its a £600 camera bought 14 days ago. I'm suspecting that its a con and the camera must have been on display for some time or a refurbished one as its now giving considerably lower power performance.
I tried finding a central complaints phone number for Jessops but no luck. Can you guys help me to get this situation sorted from this rogue outfit called Jessops?

Go back with a letter outlining your concerns demanding the item is made fit for purpose and hand the manager the letter and tell them you are not interested in any guarantee, you are claiming under the sale of goods act and what you have "served" the manger is notice under the sale of goods act and if he can not offer you a satisfactory solution you shall visit the trading standards, refuse to take the letter back, just insist you have served notice upon them.
Then if you have to, go to trading standards and make a full complaint.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
I'd say with 14 days is a "reasonable" time for a camera to reject under SoGA and demand a full refund.
Of course if you prefer a replacement or repair that is up to you. Just remember that within the first 6 months, it is up to the retailer to prove the fault is not inherent.
Have you tried googling the model to see if perhaps its a known issue that other users have experienced? You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
I googled for similar issues and found few people did mention that this camera's battery drains considerably fast - which is totally opposite to what Nikon advertise i.e. 550 shots in single charge.0

Personally in that case i'd return for a full refund. Its not fit for purpose if its being marketed @ 550 shots in a single charge and obtaining no where near that amount.
I usually do a little online research for known issues before buying something. Saves a lot of headaches laterYou keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0
