    Try

    :)
  • I would assume that the two blacks were joined together and the two reds were joined together in the previous light's ceiling rose. In that case connect the two blacks to one of the terminals, and the two reds to the other terminal. The polarity is not important in a light fitting. The light fitting terminals may be marked 'L' and 'N', if so connect the reds to 'L' and the blacks to 'N'. Not that it matters, just keeps it consistent with normal practice. If in any doubt then consult an electrician.

There are normally 3 cables in a ceiling light fitting one in from the previous light and one out to the next the third going to the switch. There is a diagram here http://sparky.uku.co.uk/installations/lighting_circuit.htm
  • Careful,

(There will be three cables unless the light is the last of the line)

the two reds will go together as they are normally the live in and out.

The two blacks could be nuetral and a switch return. In which case DON'T connect them together!!

If this is the case the two blacks go across the lamp cables.

Normally the supply cable(live, nuetral and earth) are routed to the light fitting. Then a cable is run from the light fitting to the switch. This cable takes the live down to the switch on the red core and back to the light on the black. Although any sparkie worth his salt would tag the return with a red sleeve to identify it.

    Other choices?
    1. Test the cables before connecting up.
    2.Get an electrician in.
    3. Make a note next time where you disconnect the cables from

Well if OP would post foto or info of how many lights in bedroom he has and what type they are, then it would be easier to say something.
Maybe he has some sort of LED lightning configuration with AC/DC:D
Sometimes electricians can make such things if they don't have 4 wire cable....
First config is as usual. But second is when you have 3 way switch, or maybe this house had huge lamp with 3 way switch.....

Anyways best thing, turn on switch and check with this tool

If there is no light on black ones then its fine and safe to connect them together.

Yeah if you don't anything about mains electrics, then don't touch it. Not worth it. Get an electrician.
