A catflap that lets some out and keeps some in

Hi all

I'm searching for a cat flap that uses microchips that allows you to programme which cats are allowed out.

We have a house cat we don't want out but are happy for the others to go out. Don't want anything else round the others' necks as they regulalry 'lose' collars!

Thanks in advance
:)

  • Only thing that can do that is a human opening the door.

I am sure that for thousands, you could probably get one that works on their ID chips, but until they become cheaper/exist in the first place, it's collars or humans.

I'm not sure you can. The cat flap i've got works on microchips but it allows all animals out and restricts the entry to only those programmed. The idea is that should an unwanted cat/animal somehow get in you would want it to be able to get out again and not be trapped in your house tormenting your cats. It was about £70.

Do you have to somehow programme the microchips into the system? Would I be able to just programme one in or does it recognise any cat going out to allow it to come in?

    Thanks

I believe that many microchip cat flaps can be programmed to keep certain moggies in, while letting others out. Look at Pet Supermarket and search for the 'Pet Porte Door Mount Smart Flap Microchip Cat Flap'. This one certainly does.
I think you just 'scan' each cat and select what function you want - i.e. keep in.

    Hi egyptiangirl

You programme each cat to come in but unfortunately it lets all cats (even non micro-chipped) ones out for the reason i gave previous. You just stick the batteries in and then pass the cat you want programmed through the flap and it flashes telling you that it has been programmed. It couldn't be easier! Have a google because there might be one that does exactly what you want i just know that my make of microchip flap doesn't.
I've just realised that my post isn't very helpful at all :(
    • 21. Can the Petporte Smart Flap® allow some of my pets into my home but keep others out?

Yes, simply do not program in the animals that you do not want to enter your home; they will then not be recognized by the Petporte Smart Flap® and, consequently, they will be locked out

WOO!!!! thanks so much! off to find the cheapest one I can find! THANKS :T

I thought you wanted to keep a cat in the house? That just says that any cat not programmed will not be able to enter the house. Or have i read it wrong? Apologies if i have.
