Issuing a refund through PayPal?

I received a payment from a guy in Greece for an eBay item, nothing was verified so I didn't feel safe, I refunded him and rather than the money coming from my available balance they decided to take it from my bank account, its £300, I don't have it in my bank account.

Why did they do this, why did they not take it out of the available balance? I've cancelled the direct debit, whats likely to happen now? I phoned PayPal who told me to email them, I did this and got no reply.

I have never ever heard of paypal taking money from a bank and not an aviaibale balance. Are you absolutely sure the money was cleared in your account? Also are you still showing the £300 in your paypal as an available balance?

If you don't want non UK bidders then block them using your seller preferences.

Neither have I, Yes still shows £300 and if I go into the transaction it says REFUNDED "PENDING" It has went like an eCheque, I have cancelled the direct debit so it'll not go anywhere, then I may try again.
