Before you dis other charities, you might want to look at the accounts of your own.
The last accounts (2009) posted at the Charity Commission for Support our Soldiers show this:
income £283,000
fundraising expenditure £186,000
charitable expenditure less than £20,000
reserve carried over £36,000
I have doubts about a charity that spends on fundraising nearly ten times what it spends on charitable activities.0 -
Firstly, i didn't even how a clue the deep down facts and numbers of these organisations, i just wanted to point out that its not always the big popular advertised companies that are always putting smiles on soldiers faces out there.
Secondly, are you really that sad to critise me and find out the exact figures of this? wouldn't you of just said i got it wrong? i had no intention of making a charity look bad at all i just did this in my best intentions. I do want to also point out that the 'charity expenditure' would be the postage paid, website hosting, advertising, and contracts within army(DV) etc etc.
Seriously you make me feel ashamed of how sad and shallow you people can be to actually prove a point and be correct.
If you dont have praise nor a good word about this charity please dont come back on this thread again.
Thank you to the previous kind hearted posters who actually do genuinely see my point and are looking into it.
As a soldier myself deploying November... We like any of the following:
Pot Noodles
Soap
Haribo/Chocolate
Magazines...Nuts/FHM/Zoo... And also not necessary the new we hardly get alot out there so old too.
Im not asking anybody at all to drop everything they are doing and ssend a shoebox...Just visit the charity and appreciate whats going on behind popular army charities like Help For Hero's.
Kindest, regards

Hi Paddy,
I haven't donated anything through 'Support Our Soldiers' but I did sign up to 'Adopt a Squaddie' recently and I've sent out a shoebox with toiletries that were suggested would be a luxury, plus a personal letter. I intend to send another shoebox next week with sweets, magazines, etc.
I used to donate to an international children's charity, but after a while of receiving glossy magazines with information about how much good my money was doing, I decided that I'd rather donate to something else, and where better than our own armed forces!0 -

Hi Barcelonacat,
Thats such a fantastic thing your doing, not always do you people get told how much a morale you our to us out there.
I will have a look at that charity too as im sure they too are a small close knit charity which works hard to make soldiers worldwide happy.
I hope you get a letter back as a thank you and appreciation to your kindness.
Kind regardsBetter to understand a little than to misunderstand a lot.0 -

Apologies if i got it wrong, its what i heard, im a soldier myself and its just something we got told.
Shame on you for slagging off a worthy charity BEFORE checking out the facts.Firstly, i didn't even how a clue the deep down facts and numbers of these organisations, i just wanted to point out that its not always the big popular advertised companies that are always putting smiles on soldiers faces out there.

So, you have a go at one charity whilst promoting another that is proven to be less financially savvy and then choose to insult someone that actually took the time to discover the facts and show them here - good on them for at least trying to get the right information on here rather than your sorry excuse for an explanation.
I would ask that anyone else visitng this thread go and read the FACTS here:

OP - I strongly suggest that you brush up on your listening skills and ability to process information before you deploy as this will be vital in theatre as you clearly lack those skills right now.:hello:0
