Tesco Cheating With It's Price Check

Their price check is becoming worthless and I am now going to be shopping in Asda for the foreseeable future. When I price check I often see items that Tesco claim are being sold in Asda at the same price as Tesco, even when I know this isn't true and Asda are selling the item as a standard price rather than a special offer, the latest one I spotted was 1 litre of flora milk, this has been £1 in Asda for the last 4 months, but Tesco say it is being sold for £1.26 in Asda.

Well what a suprise that was, less than 2 minutes before I started typing this message I sent a message to Tesco customer services regarding this, while I was still typing this message Tesco customer services telephoned me and said they were going to investigate my complaint, not sure if they are being very efficient or worried that customers are catching on.

Even before this year's big Price check offer I just ignored those ads because it's all too easy to discount one product by a penny and then try to make out the whole shop is cheaper, and Asda's been by far the worst offenders for it in the noughties up until I gave up shopping at my local when they ripped out all but two checkouts for the self-service tills. Now it seems like Tesco is trying it too. My mother's Sainsbury till printout said everything was the same price, so much for an instant voucher :)

I still go to Asda at Christmas or for clothing, but not food. Tesco itself is in for a shock as of Monday when they stop doing double points, unless they have another bunch of newspaper vouchers planned.

I don't doubt that happens, but the issue I have is with regular prices that have not been discounted and have been a standard price for several months, and can be clearly seen on mysupermarket so there is no excuse for Tesco not updating the price checker to reflect the price.

I find Asda to be just as bad. I was looking at my step-mom's Asda price guarantee thing, and it had a lot of Sainsbury's prices at a fair amount more than they really were. I compared my Sainsbury's receipt with what the price guarantee site was saying, and on identical items found they were really bullish*tting about prices.
    Eg.
Sugar - 1.09 in Asda. Price guarantee said 1.31 in Sainsbury's. Actual price in Sainsbury's was 1.00. And always is when I buy it.

Birds eye chicken - 1.35 in Asda. PG said £1.50 in Sainsbury's. Was actually £1.
  • Is this a regular thing or a isolated issue?

It wouldn't surprise me if all these schemes were just bluster, and just another way to confuse the customer even further. For every price they cut, they hike another one up to make up on the loss.

I also find it ridiculous that they are all price matching with each other, no undercutting/lower prices!? Seems a bit stupid really, the price is the same as tesco, as sainsbury's and asda - what incentive is there for me to shop in your store then? ;)

Also, even with the 'savings' they amount to pence - look at the worked example for point #6 on this page.

  • The Sainsburys is a clever con too

as said in point 6 its the value of the full shop that would have costs if you gone else where not what you save for each item is if was more

I am sure people are getting sick of feeling deceived no wonder many are going to aldi/lidl
  • There are so many of these price guarantee things going on now, Im completely bored by them. :o
