Develop my own website - help urgently needed!!

I have an idea for a website that I would very much like to set up.

Unfortunately, I have no idea how to start this off.

I do not want to explain my concept as I worry about my idea being poached. I do not necessarily want to make huge amounts of money but just enough to keep the website ticking over would be good.

Could anyone help? Any useful advice would be very much appreciated.

Thank you in advance.
Serendipity13 :)

Have you got any web editing software by any chance, and if you do what is it.

Any website will need hosting and a domain name as well, there are many services available (Google Web Hosting), one possible host is https://www.liquidsix.com

An excellent site for learning HTML and CSS etc is https://www.w3schools.com.
  • Hello, im a webdesigner so i know a fair bit, what kind of website will this be?

Its quite hard to explain to you what you need to lean for example you will need to learn HTML, and CSS, from their if you want to use a database EG.Login system, you will need to know PHP & MYSQL as well as HTML and CSS, if you would liek to PM me with what the site is about i could probbbally tell you what u need to learn but dont expect to learn it all overnite.

I set up my own website with 1-2-3 reg, using their sitebuilding software (it's about £20).

It is very very simple indeed and looks very professional.
Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam
  • You will also need webhosting and a domain name too. Depending on what scripting features your site needs depends on the price. You will have a choice of 2 platforms, Windows and Linux, Linux is the best option if you dont need to use frontpage extentions and ASP. The their are control panels, most major companys have some sort of control panel.

You will also need a domain name.
  • Gosh. I have such a lot to learn.

I will take on board all this advice and try to read up about it. Just wish I had done web design in a previous life!

Thanks to all for your help.

  • Have you thought about what happens when you have made the site ? How people going to find you ?

When people make websites they just assume that google and other search engines and people will see there site of course this is rubbish.
Once you have your site up and running you then have to promote it (doing your self will take time from 3 - 12 months.) or spending a shed load of money for someone to promote it for you !

you need to learn about SEO - Search Engine Optimization and what it does for your site.

What about submitting to google and other search engines ?

Well this will get you indexed , but this just means that if you type your domain name into google it will show, now if for example you had a xbox 360 website and you domain was https://www.123gaming.com why would anyone type into google 123 gaming to find xbox related sites ? they wouldn't ! all they would do is type xbox games into google and find a site

This is where SEO comes in and helps you understand how to get on the first couple of pages of google for the "keywords" you desire....

    This link should help.

    SEO

On the other hand another wy to promote your site is to pay for visitors to click on your site using something like Google Adwords, might be worth a read but can start to be expensive if the site revenue isn't cutting the mark..

OH and just one more thing before your little adventure i would search google msn and yahoo for the "idea" you have because 9 times out of 10 someones already had it
If it doesn't fit, force it; if it breaks, it needed replacement anyway
Sarcasm helps keep you from telling people what you really think of them

  • I could get it done for you, pretty much the same way MSE was created ( I think)

    PM me if intrested.
