I hadn't really thought about getting the online saver, but maybe it's a good idea for me for the reason you state.
That's why I suggested it to you last night (on your savings review thread). ;)
Were you able to apply for the Regular Saver online as you already had an online account with them?
    Postal or branch applications only.

    Oh yes! Sorry :p

I do think it's a very good idea but am worried about not being able to transfer funds to my current account in an instant. I've just started a new job and am getting used to my new cash flow patterns as I now get paid twice a month. I've had to set up a spreadsheet to keep track of all my regular savers!

I definitely need to get my money out of the BoS account unless they up the rate (unlikely) and it looks like YBS will be getting my custom :)

I should warn you then, transfers out to one of your 5 nominated external accounts do take a full 5 days, ie action Monday, arrive Friday.

However, if it's purely a budgeting thing, you get a link card with the Internet Saver meaning you can withdraw £750 per day (£500 from branch and £250 from an ATM).

That said, once the 'same/next day payment' BACS mechanism is introduced (hopefully in November this year) it will cease to be an issue.

Once I get used to knowing how much money I need to have in my current account at any one time, I'll be fine! At the moment I have reminders set up in my calendar so I don't forget when my standing orders are going out etc.

Five days is a long time, but I couldn't even log into my Icesave account the other day which was even more worrying!!!

Same-day BACS is going to be heaven!

  • Are you able to view the balance of your regular saver online, if you have an internet saver?
I'm thinking of getting a regular saver, but am wondering whether its worth opening an internet saver too, just so I can monitor the regular one online.
I like to see whats in it etc.

Yes. Opened mine in branch yesterday and it was visible online this morning.

    Yes you can.
Indeed even if you close the o/s again you can still view the r/s through internet banking.

The above is what I intend to do, but I will also make use of the one penalty-free withdrawal they allow each account year, to keep my balance under the £20,000 limit indefinitely.
    Thanks, that's an excellent idea.
