Trouble with PC world have any rights??

This is a really long story so going to be as simple as possible. I took out the whatever happens out with them

:j Computer had virus, sent to workshop and returned saying no problems
:jSent again as no internet connection to it, returned with new network card !!!
:jGot back on the 21st Sept, left click not working, number 9 just about works and looks like my 2years was let loose to it

Called customer services and they stated that because it will be 28 days that the same problem as not been resolved I should get another one, spoke to the tech guys and said that I should have contacted them within 7 days (despite being told 28 days) for it to fall into that section of being replaced, I explained that there is nothing in writing stating this and asked for that condition to be sent to me and they said that it is not in the small print but that is now it is !!! Yet it does state in the leaflet that if it takes 28 days then It would be replaced !! Can they do this?

if you got a virus why not just get a virus removal program, or press one of the function keys at start to reinstall windows.

As to a 2 year old let loose to it thats not covered under any warranty.

If you actually read the OP, it came back from 'repair' looking like a 2 year-old had been playing with it.
  • I was wanting to get in done properly, a friend did remove the virus but it had damaged the network card

28 days refers to the total length of repair with gaps of no longer than 7 days. So if it has worked for over 7 days before the fault developed again then the 28 day period would start again. Or if the problem was still present and you decided not to contact them for over 7 days.

If it did just have a virus the first time then the 28 days would count from the second repair. Non-hardware faults, such as viruses, are not covered. I'm surprised they collected it at all for repair, they should have informed you viruses are not covered as part of the service agreement.

Why did you wait from the 21st of Sept until now to contact them? Surely as soon as it was returned with the touchpad and keys not working you should have contacted them?

Was typing the above message so didn't see your message about the network card. All though I don't know how a virus could damage your network card. But still, why did you not contact them sooner?
  • TBH did not want to be without it for another 10 days thats all !! I did call them and they told me that it would have to go back to the workshop.
My auguement is that it states no where in any agreement not even in the small print about this 7 day rule, but pc world are happy to put in large letters the new one in 28 days, when picked up both times I was also told 28 days so was going to take it through tonight as I seem to get better service in store than the tech guys

I think your getting the 28 day repair time confused. I think they will have told you have the total time for repair is 28 days maximum for a replacement. Not that you have 28 days from the time the laptop is back to report it is still faulty.

    Take these three examples.

Example One: Laptop sent for repair and returned faulty 10 days later. You contact them straight away, this time the laptop is repaired and returned after another 10 days. Total repair time 20 days. No replacement.

Example Two: Laptop sent for repair and returned working 10 days later. You contact them again 5 days later as the fault has occurred again (reported within 7 days since returned). Total days so far 15. After 14 days it is still in for repair. At this point you can claim a replacement as it has been over 28 days for repair since you first reported the problem and it has still not be repaired.

Example Three: Laptop sent for repair and returned faulty 10 days later. You contact them 20 days after that and because it has been over 28 days since you first reported the fault they automatically give you a replacement.

The 3rd option just isn't going to happen. Because you could take advantage and just wait long enough for you to be entitled to replacement before reporting the fault.
