Whether anything is ever actually done about it is a question arising. As there’s a continuous torrent of crime emails afflicting everyone all the time then perhaps not. But we live in hope. So it might help to report them. Maybe, if we’re lucky and the banks, police and government can be bothered to do their jobs rather than just allowing huge amounts of crime to happen all the time and making law abiding people pay through the nose all the time.0 -

There is nothing of any use on my PC. Selective data I want is backed up.
It doesn't have any direct links to my active accounts.
I don't use any keyboard stokes to authenticate. I have a a second security key. I would never log in to my account without going direct to the Banks site certainly not via a link.
The computer is cleaned at least daily.
If it is a real threat I do not believe it would remain undetected for too long.
Hi grizzly1911,
I'm sure your AV is quite good, but it's also important to remember that if you were to get a virus - even for just a day - you would potentially be helping to propagate it. Someone else might not have such good AV.
On a practical note, before actually clicking links, it's a good idea to hover the mouse over them and see where the link actually points to (it appears at the bottom of most browsers when the mouse is over a link). It's usually quite obvious from the address if it's a scam. (and it's usually a scam).
Other "tells" include use of your full title and name (your bank wouldn't address you as e.g. "Dear Valued Customer") and hidden text (white text on white background that is only visible when selected).
To answer your original question... Yes, I have received phishing emails claiming to be from Santander.
Cheers,
pogalog0 -
"You never click a third party link", you just did by clicking on the link in the email.
Seriously if you are falling for such obvious scams, it is only a matter of time before you really are scammed.
And for the record today I got the self same email and I don't even bank with them.
The question is would I have given them any further - you're making assumptions.
You still haven't told me what they would achieve - in my case.
I do have accounts with them. The only one that is accessible over the net is not used. I have corresponded by email in the past. Good job I tipped you off;)"If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

Thanks for the info.
Scambaiters looks interesting
The only other time I had a attempt made was at point of purchase on a web purchase, with a well known store.
It tried t0 hijack the Visa verified page -asked for PIN which was a bit cheeky. Cleared out the problem and has not been seen since.
I tried to get the card operator to take a look but they weren't interested, I had screen grabs, addresses too.
It is a question of balancing cost v. risk no doubt.I am sure many know the issues and are "confident" they have appropriate measures in place."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

You're welcome. Glad if it’s of use or interest.
Go carefully with scambaiting if you do it yourself and remember that a lot of them are also murderers, torturers, kidnappers, extorters etc.
If you’re looking into it or interested in finding out some more about the subject then perhaps read these as well :

Yes, crime is something that gets my attention fairly regularly. As you can see, it bothers me. Happy scambaiting, if you do it. If you do then please let us know how you get on. And, one more time, be careful if you do.0 -
Do you know that even reporting these is a waste of time as they in the most likely event sent from abroad therefor no policing from here will stop them. just delete anything you get or annoy them as I do.0

Of course you would have, you've already been foolish enough to click on a link in an OBVIOUS scam email.
Clearly I'm wasting my time here, you don't understand what is being said to you.
Just don't go giving your bank details to anyone who says you have won a million in the Nigerian lottery either.0
