Canon G9 Camera with broken lens cover - How/How much to fix it?

Hello everyone,
I apologise for my explanation of this as I'm not very technically minded, but I hope it makes sense!
I have a Canon G9 digital camera (fairly expensive still, hence why I don't just buy a new one) but the lower shutter over the lens doesn't fully shut anymore...It comes part of the way out, but you have to use you finger to flick it over to fully cover the lens.
To cut a long story short, a now ex friend of mine drunkenly shoved her finger over it & pushed it down for a good 30 seconds - my Dad seems to think in doing so, she has damaged one of the gears that opens & closes it, although it opens up fine.
I went to a camera shop who told me it was £25 just to send it off for a quote... & they could give me no indication of how much it would be to actually fix it...I have looked into sending it directly to Canon, but again I can find no indication of cost at all.
Can anyone more technically minded give me a rough idea of how much I'm looking at to get this fixed? Or even better if it's possible to fix it with a DIY job? I don't want to post it off before getting a rough idea, as money is fairly tight so it could wait a bit longer if it's too much...

Thanks for the link, just had a look but apparently:-
"Please note that we DO NOT repair Canon compact cameras, either 35mm or APS, or compact digital cameras, video equipment, scanners, printers, faxes or multi-function printers."
The G9 is a compact camera, just a very pricey one still despite the G12 now being out!:idea:Debt at July 2012: £12,862.57

Thank you to both of you - just called & was given a quote of £38.40 including p&p & to state that on the covering letter. Now I can account for that in next month's budget

I'd send it to Colchester Camera Repair, they are an authorised Canon repair centre.0
