Yep you're right Tobruk, I would probably cook it myself at that stage. We must not, in trying to think about how we can make a big difference, ignore the small daily differences we can make which, over time, add up to big differences that we often cannot foresee.

that's why i suggested freezing it for 14 days minimum before eating this is very effective
i had salmonella poisoning about 10 years ago, it was so bad that they said that if i'd gotten to the hospital any later i would have likely died  (bad chinese restaurant food, never again!) it took 2 months before i could eat regularly again and even now i no longer have as strong a stomach as i used to believe me, if anyone is picky about food hygiene, it's me!
the reason i know about the 14 day freezer rule is that after that happened i read up quite a bit about hygiene etc it's just one day out, doesn't smell, doesn't look funny it should be fine in the freezer but to each their ownfounder of Frugal Genius UK (Yahoo Groups)0 -
Anything must start to deteriorate slowly after the use by date. It doesn't suddenly go off at one minute past midnight. Cook it today it should be fine.
The suggestion to freeze it for two weeks sounds sensible as long as it hasn't already been frozen before you bought it.0 -

There's all sorts of fuss about chicken nowadays.........even without bird flu! I agree with everyone else...Since the date was yesterday, and the chicken doesn't smell it should be fine. Especially since you put it in the fridge when you got home from shopping. Cook it thoroughly and that will kill off any bugs.DFW Nerd no 239.....Last Personal Debt paid off Nov 2012!
