Hi all,
Looking for a some advice with a rather confusing situation.
Last month I checked my stautory credit report online having been refused an increase and extension to a personal loan. Everything seemed ok then i noticed an entry for a defaulted account with orange. Now I haven't had an orange mobile phone for years so i was more than a bit surprised.
I rang orange who told me they are now owned by 'Everything Everywhere' and that I would need to e-mail them at creditfilequery@everythingeverywhere.com to raise a dispute so I did and they eventually responded with:

Thank you for your recent email regarding your Orange account and the information showing on your credit file.
This account fell into arrears and as a result it followed our collections process. This included the sending of reminder letters to you and also the use of external debt collection agencies.
As we were unable to recover this debt from you ourselves it has now been sold on to a third party debt purchaser, in accordance with the contract terms and conditions. Unfortunately we are unable to deal with your query as we are no longer responsible for this account.
Any credit file entries recorded by Orange in relation to this account will be removed and the debt purchaser will record their own entries onto your credit file. Changes should be visible at the beginning of October 2011.
The debt purchaser of this account is CapQuest Debt Recovery Ltd. and they will write to you directly in due course. Once you have received this letter you will have the opportunity to discuss your query with the debt purchaser.
Should you wish to contact the debt purchaser in the meantime their contact details are as follows:
CapQuest Debt Recovery Limited
PO Box 396
Fleet
Hampshire
GU51 2WZ
Thank you once again for contacting us.

This agency has now been in touch and i have rang them saying i wish to dispute this and they have said i need to write a letter and raise the dispute which they can then take up with orange.
The strangest thing for me is I signed up for the orange contract in Oct 05 for 18 months and the outstanding balance they are after dates to Sep 07 now i can't remember exactly when I upgraded my contract but I had a new contract with orange after that date, and this outstanding amount was never once raised in the following couple of years when i was still a customer. Even last year when no longer a customer i rang to complain about them having charged me £5 a month for unlimited internet even when the account was closed which they duly refunded me.
So I guess the main thing i'm looking for is advice on how to write a good letter to the debt recovery people to raise the dispute
Regards,
JD

Hi JD,
I've got something similar going on at the moment, having found a default on my credit file with a company I've never heard of, the nature of it suggests it's fraud. I've got a thread on it over on the Credit Card board. What I've done is contact Experian/Equifax to ask them to raise a dispute, so while it gets sorted it will show as a 'dispute' on my file rather than a 'default'. That might be worth a try too.0
