Income Tax?

Hello everyone,

so I have been unemployed for almost a year now :( during this time I have undertaken a very long internship (unpaid of course) and then another shorter one (again unpaid). I have been continuously looking for a job and hope to find one soon, but I am now wondering what will be the situation when I find one, what document will they need from me? My P45 from my last paid job last year? Or do I need to have something else?
Bear in mind I am not claiming any jobseekers allowance as they have been refused to me because "I didn't pay enough tax last year" (I was studying and therefore working part-time)

Also, I have heard I can claim income tax back for being unemployed, is that true? How does it work?

Please help....thank you!!!!!!

Although you might not be able to claim contribution-based JSA you could be able to get income-based JSA although that would depend whether you have a partner who can support you financially.
Most companies will ask for your last P45, it doesn't matter how long ago you got it. Or you could complete a P46 which just tells the tax office it is your first and only job that tax year.
If you have paid tax in part of a year and then become unemployed you could get a rebate. I have received rebates automatically as the tax office checks details although it is usually a year later. You can call or go into your local tax office and ask for a rebate to be processed. They will probably need to see your P45 for that.
