Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 - Database Update help

Morning chums,
I have changed to Kaspersky from Avast and Malwarebytes.
No noticable change in performance however:-
Kaspersky obv loads on startup however the home screen always says:
"Database: Hasn't been updated for a long time"
So I run the update which take a couple of minutes, then it says "Database: Up to date".
It does this every day though, it looks like it's set to automatic updates so I guess I'm just being paranoid but i've never actually SEEN it automatically update.
Oh and Malwarebytes picked up an Adware (Hotbar) yesterday so am I bit worried that Kaspersky is not all it's cracked up to be.
Any ideas?

Steps to try as advised on forum
Check system date/time correct, then Settings > Update > Update source > Proxy server > uncheck proxy server > ok>ok>ok.
If still a problem
Clear your temp folder: http://support.kaspersky.com/kis2012/tech?...p;qid=208279128
Then try an un and re install of Kaspersky with a fresh installer downloaded from here: http://www.kaspersky.com/kis_latest_versions
Uninstall Kaspersky, reboot and double check that date and time is correct, then reinstall Kaspersky from the downloaded installer. Reboot and try to update databases.0 -

Thank you dogmary, I changed the settings to update daily and that seems to have sorted it.

ive used Kaspersky Internet Security and Malwarebytes together for several years now and it is very rare that Malwarebytes picked anything up, this year i took the plung and opted for Kaspersky Pure along with Malwarebytes and so far Malwarebytes had not picked anything up0
