Hi
I have just bought a laptop and wanted to set up a wireless connection - I bought a Netgear Wireless ADSL2 Starter kit and have started to try and set it up. However my main pc does not seem to have an ethernet connection so I am stuck :-(
Have I bought the wrong thing and if not what can I do?
Feel really stupid !
Thanks for any help :-)

Well you could start by buying a NIC for your pc (only a few £'s).You'll always miss 100% of the shots you don't take - Wayne Gretzky
Any advice that you receive from me is worth exactly what you paid for it. Not a penny more or a penny less.0 -
are you on ADSL (bt line) or cable ??
you may have a cable router where I think you may need a router/modemEx forum ambassador

Hi
On a BT line - as far as I can see I have bought a modem router which I thought was right!0 -
you can connect straight away wirelessly and set it up, I did mine that way without ever using a cable
plug the adsl line in, turn on the router and let it stabilise, ie all lights stable
let the laptop scan and locate the router and let it connect (you may need to enter the passphrase/wep key that is on a label on the modem)
then open internet explorer and type
192.168.0.1
to access the control panel
Type in 'admin' for the username and 'password' for the password. (the address might be 192.168.0.1 rather that 192.168.1.1, it depends on what model you have)Ex forum ambassador

If the starter kit has a wireless dongle, you could use that for the PC. The laptop should have an ethernet connection, and or wireless.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -

Just realised I should have put my question on the sticky at the top....sorry for starting a new thread......0 -
