Oh dear. Too much tea?Knitting_Nora wrote: »Yesterday I spent much of the day undoing a jumper I've been making for a friend for Christmas, and turning it into something else (she's put on weight, so I'm changing the jumper to a shrug to accommodate any shape change).
It may be the lack of sleep, or the lack of chocolate (soon put that right), but my brain has just associated the jumper-that's-now-a-shrug with Tracy Island. You know - the place where the Thunderbirds live. Hmmm, maybe the shrug will change into something else when the world is terrorised by string puppets? But wouldn't that make it more of a transformer rather than a thunderbird?
Well Lady Penelope probably had a shrug with a machine gun in it...Knitting_Nora wrote: »Ok, moving on (because that made my head hurt).
Isn't that Thunderbird 8 - the paracetamol one?Knitting_Nora wrote: »I also took apart a throw I'm knitting (on huge, 2ft wooden needles if anyone's interested) for my sister for Christmas - turns out the colours are now wrong for her new decor. This is technically a little annoying as while the wool is cheap individually you need 6 balls per throw, so it adds up.
Only technically? I'd find it annoying having wasted so much time on it. :mad:Knitting_Nora wrote: »However, in a marked change from my normal attitude, I didn't simply reach for the credit card. Instead, I've decided to wait until payday to get the new wool, plus I've worked out three other projects (including two birthday presents and a Christmas present) which use up the 'wrong' wool and save me both from the associated shopping trips and from spending what would have been a lot more money on each of those three prezzies between now and spring.
To be honest, I'm feeling a little smug - if you're following my insane ramblings, then please feel free to stop for a second and feel smug alongside me....there...don't say I never give you anything. :kisses3:

Ok, time to liberate chocolate from the fridge otherwise I'm going to be a complete beast to anyone coming to the door today.

Ooooo, christmas smileys! Always welcome on my diary! :T0

oh, and truth be told, I went back to bed after posting this morning - had mucked up the terminator shrug (shrug with a machine gun in it *snort*), and couldn't keep my eyes open. Just too early!
So...good morning again! Much more away now - though don't expect much more than the sloth-like activity I promised earlier. Though I am in a planning mood - I have lots to do over the next few weeks (sort house ready to hand back to landlord at the end of the year, sell lots on ebay, get removal and storage quotes *sigh* etc., etc.,) and all of this really needs planning, ooo, and lists - there must be lists!!

Don't worry, I don't spot many mistakes in speeling and grandma on this board. I just try to spot the funnier ones...Knitting_Nora wrote: »ZTD - I swear I don't do this on purpose just to entertain you. It's sheer talent.

I am super interested in this...is the pattern easy to come by?...and the needles for that matter. (Not that I will be making any by christmas, I think everyone is getting a salt dough ornament for the tree and not much more!)

Hi Dot
Check out www.racheljohn@co.uk (or simply google "extreme knitting" for the needles (go through the shop to see pics - I use the 1"x2' ones; which ensure I get the sofa to myself!).
As for patterns - couldn't be simpler: I use 6 balls of the 200g chunky marble, cast on 45 stitches and just do plain knit until I run out of wool. Works well with stocking stitch (knit and purl), but the edges do curl - which is why I stick to simple knit. The throw will be about 45" x 42", and will stretch nicely.
You can do plenty with the needles, but I stick to throws. Throws aren't cheap (using the marble wool and a local lovely stockist they still come in at just under £30), but as one-off presents for very special people or indeed yourself - I swear by mine for keeping very, very snuggly - they're wonderful.
