I just read todays version, different to what I was writing about, which I saw on tv yesterday
and I am absolutely hopping furious. How DARE they

I am spitting mad, it is beyond belief.
I know how you feel but I don't think its anything to worry about to be honest.
Push comes to shove they would'nt dare risk the "grey vote".
Its all a load of hot air.
Its also just to detract from the government not building social housing and dealing with immigration, two issues that they keep avoiding.
One thing that I wish the younger people of today would realise,if they keep pushing this attitude toward the old the way they are doing they are going to have a new generation who are going to treat them very badly because they'll know no different.
Anyone remember Logans Run:rotfl:.0 -
These damn reports are so annoying!
How many of us are still supplementing our adults kids? In my case, one who has been extremely profligate.Member #14 of SKI-ers club
Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.

I wonder if Tessa will be setting an example by downsizing herself?0

Anything Tessa Jowell supports is not worth debating.
The call comes from the Intergenerational Foundation, a left-leaning think-tank that aims to 'promote fairness between generations'.
promote fairness, yeah right think again."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

I'll downsize when the Queen does.0

Instead of getting the over 60s to move they should be building more family homes rather than the shoebox apartments that seem to be popping up everywhere.0

So the biggest problem is not the retired. but the double income no kids cohort. They are probably the only ones who can afford to buy property with surplus bedrooms.0 -
Three things here.
Firstly, the Daily Mail does love to inflame public opinion and regularly 'targets', a sector of the population in order to provoke cries of outrage and those 'Disgusted of Tonbridge Wells', type responses.
Its called selling newspapers.
Secondly, 'promoting intergenerational fairness', is an absolute hoot coming from a series of governments that have upped student fees, slashed employment opportunities for anyone under 25 and over 50; presided over the most shocking set of accounts in the nations history while making a mint out of inflating house prices and rents to the extent that the average person is living on overdrafts and credit cards just to get by.
And thirdly... its a well known tactic of this so-called 'leadership', culture of ours that when you've cocked it all up - and royally, you find a soft target to blame your inadequacies on...
I rest my case.0 -
Older people should be taxed out of their family homes to free up space for younger generations, says a report backed by Labour.
It argues that 'empty nesters' in their 60s are taking up too much room and should be 'encouraged'
I see the report is being sponsored by Tessa Jowell MP, 64 years old
and the single occupant of a rather large house. I do hope she's looking forward to paying lots and lots more tax. Foot, meet gun......................I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

I must have misunderstood the whole thing. I thought they were referring to council houses. I know in my area there are many many 3 bedroom council properties that have one single pensioner in. I can see it from both points of view actually, if the person has lived in the house for years, raised their familys and then became widowed it seems a bit unfair to then expect them to leave their home as well. On the other hand - it is social housing! It doesn't seem right for a family with children to be living in a one bedroom council flat whilst a single pensioner is living in a 3 bedroom home which is also council property? It is a tricky one! When life hands you lemons, ask for tequilla and salt and give me a call!!!0
