help with gas supply

i have just moved home and tried to switch gas and electric over my electric was no problem but my gas well ive been told its strange as my gas box does not exsist on the data base and there is no supplier something to do with them getting updated a few years ago and this one did not get done well anyway i tried getting npower to take over and they told me noone can yet and ive got to wait on this waiting list for npower i asked what i do in the mean time and they told me i get FREE gas till its sorted i said are you sure as i dont want a massive bill and he said no its free there is no supplier does have any one no anything about this

Be careful, they are entitled to back bill for 12 months (no more) so start putting the money in savings.
Document the times you have spoken to them, and with who.
Take readings so that if they do go back a year you have an accurate reading for them to base it on.
Cross your fingers...

that is a very odd thing for npower to say.

You would have been advised that national grid or independant gas transporter hold no details so you are free to register with the gas supplier of choice also the gas supplier you choose will have to arrange for a new meter point reference number to be generated for you too.

The information on the database is put there by the suppliers and for several reasons it sometimes does not get done. No one can actually turn round and be specific as to reason unless they are correct supplier.

Is it a new build? or has the property been empty for a while if so how long

thankyou for the advice and i that was thought entirely and im not sure if it had been empty for long it is a council house so could of been empty a while but it is not a new build house, ive never heard of this before and sounds a bit to good to be true free gas

check with the council as they may have details of the current supplier and or the meter point reference number on their records. If they have the mrpn number then you can call the m number line 0870 608 1524 and give them that as they can search for details using that. If still no details just a case of supplier of choice arranging for a new number if none and registering an account. Happens all the time so Npowers agent is totally incorrect is saying you will be getting free gas and should not even be encouraging or suggesting that to you.

It is too good to be true, you will eventually have to pay for your 'free' usage. so get it sorted now or face a huge debt in the future.

Rule #1: Do NOT call energy suppliers, but do EVERYTHING in writing e.g. email and INSIST you get a reply by letter. A lot of the first line call centre staff are total dummies and will say anything.
You need to have proof so you can take them to court if things go wrong.
