Can anyone help ? Vegas hotels seem to have bumped their prices up dramatically !!

Hi
I have been looking online, and on the phone, all weekend, for a week in Vegas in Feb/Mar this year.
I have found a good flight, and went to look at hotels for the date ( around 16th Feb for 7 nights). Last year I paid around £220 for a week in the stratosphere, and there were many more around that price.
I have rang around, tried all the hotels' sites, and hotels.com, hotwire.com, expeida etc and the cheapeast ones are now £500 for a week !! (and those are the really shabby off the strip ones, strip were even more !)
Can anyone tell me why this is ? And more importantly, where can I get a hotel at a decent price ?!?!
Thanks in advance for any help you can give

wow it does look expensive..I just checked last minute for that week 16th and it's not that cheap...I am going on the second of feb and it's £168 more for the week your there to stay at circus circus and that's not the best hotel...Try https://www.tripres.com apart from the searches you have done..Harrahs hotel have some rooms for $79 and $69 dollars but that's midweek..go onto harrahs website and click on Hotdeals at the top.We were going to do 3 nights circus circus then 3 at harrahs as it's cheap when we go but we are staying at circus circus as it's too much messing about packing and unpacking etc..Good Luck!0

The hotels usually put their prices up when there are big conventions in town.
This website may help.

I can;t see any conventions that would drastically alter the dates (Ive been before when Caterpillar etc were there, every day there are exhibitions on in Vegas there are no majoe boxing matches on, and its AFTER Valentines DAy, so I really can't see the problem.
I looked at the circus circus last year, last year £220, this year £500 !! I have no idea why.
I have tried hotwire, they only show a "north vegas hotel" at $99, so its $800 incl taxes for the week anyway,(and Im 99% sure thats the stratosphere) no better.
Can anyone help with this ????0 -

ah ha !!
Thanks phil
I have started looking for other hotels, my plan is to stay in the cheapest toilet in town for the 1st 3 days, then get a decent hotel (maybe MGM) for the last 4 days of the week.0 -

down load https://www.travelaxe.com on to your computer, you can then put in your destination and dates and it will search all the 'search' sites for you and show you the best deals at a glance. I used it last year for Vegas and got the Luxor for a great price. Good luck. Very jealous0

we were there recently over new year, stayed the first 2 nights at the motel 6 on tropican opposite MGM, then moved to the bellagio, for exactly the same reason as you above. The motel 6 was OK, pretty much like our travel lodges.0 -
I think your problem(s) might be that....
Monday February 19th is a USA public holiday....Presidents Day
and also...The NBA All-Star game, widely renowned as one of the most extravagant sporting events in the world, will fittingly make Las Vegas its home in 2007.
The weekend festivities begin February 16th and culminate on the 18th with the All-Star Game. This bustling weekend coincides with President's Day weekend and the Chinese New Year, both of which are traditional Vegas hot beds, along with the Magic Convention, a display of the years upcoming fashion lines.
The end result is that hotel room prices are skyrocketing and continuing to rise.
The NBA All-Star is a week long celeberation that allows fans from around the world to get up close and personal with the greatest NBA athletes known ending Sunday, February 18th with the 58th NBA All-Star Game at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.
the city is expected to sell out of all available hotel rooms, and reports of hotels already sold out during the NBA All-Star week are already coming in.
Due to the popularity of the All Star game, and the increased chances for celebrity sightings, Las Vegas will be the city to be at on February 16, 17 and 18, 2007!0 -
Aha ha ! Another reason, Presidents Day !
My brothers wife is from Hong Kong, and is going home to see her family in Feb, so we urmised that the Chinese may all be over for the weekend and that was the reason, but a public holiday would certainly exacerbate it.
OK, I will re phrase my question, can anyone recommend any good flights (direct from manchester if poss, changing over in the USA is EXHAUSTING) via airtours or BMI (the only ones that fly direct as far as I know) without charging me the silly, way over the top (£500+ each on average) prices that they gave me yesterday, for dates in March ?
And can you recommend any hotel offers for March too !
thanks in advance.0
