Cheapest southern electric tariff?

We're with southern electric for our gas and electricity. I've tried checking comparison sites to see if we can get it cheaper elsewhere, but I can never find the tariff we're on in the drop down lists.

According to our online account, we're on domestic standard no standing charge, and we get 7% discount of both gas and electric. I have no idea whether this is their cheapest tariff, or whether we could get it cheaper elsewhere. I'm a little bit reluctant to change supplier, because I really like our online account because I can update the meter reading whenever I want to really keep track of our energy consumption, but if we're paying a lot more than we could be, i'd change.

I know this sounds daft, but I've never switched supplier before. Does anyone know the best way to use the comparison sites when our tariff doesn't appear to be listed?

Not sure which comparison sites you have checked but I tried TheEnergyShop and your likely tariff is called "dual-fuel no standing charge". I really hope that Southern Electric are not being deliberately misleading in how they describe the tariff on your bill but it is something I have come across before with Southern Electric.

Typically you can save around 10% by switching.
  • i came across this today, most of the comparrison sites are pretty useless though.
i found out im getting a good discount with the 7% but you can get an extra 2% discount on top.
this is until 2014 so until then youll be getting 9% discount in total.
I signed up and was very easy, just go on the website and it says fixed discount 2014
you will be tied in and there are fees if you leave but it is the every cheapest you can get with southern and i found you can get it about £50 a year cheaper with EDF or Scottish power but the website, bills and service are poor compared to southern

if your tariff is no longer available then it may not be listed. It doesn't matter, just use your supplier's standard tariff for the purpose. The point is to find the current cheapest tariff, which it will then give you.
Standard tariff is the most expensive.
