Yep - my hubby gets this - its just a small tax relief. Its because he cant wear his clothes outside of work (because they have the company name on) so he has to be re-imbursed for washing them. You cant do it I dont think if they dont have a logo on but I could be wrong0

Hi
I was just wondering if anyone knew whether HM Armed Forces personnel are able to claim this?
It might have changed since I was discharged but I was told NO as the camp/barracks provide a weekly dry cleaning and laundry service and if you chose not to use those, then dont expect a tax rebate. I found it better to use the machines in the Barracks than have wear and tear on my machine at home as I had oil and fuel stained denims and DPMs to wash.
It may have changed since I came out, rumour has it you're allowed to have children and not lose your job now! :rotfl:0 -
As a carer I can claim an allowance for washing my uniform etc think it adds about £10 a month onto my allowance. I haven't claimed and prob want do.

This is what i have sent off today. Might help somebody:
Dear Sirs
I have been employed as a XXXXX at XXXXX since XXXXX 2008.
I am required to wear a fully liveried uniform, consisting of skirt/trousers, jacket and blouse, all complete with embroidered XXXXX logos. I am obliged to launder the uniform, which is supplied to me by my employer. My employer has no facilities to launder my uniform. As a result all laundering of my uniform is undertaken at my own expense.
I therefore wish to claim a flat rate expenses allowance of £XXX for this tax year, and the previous 2 years covering the tax periods of 2008-2009 and 2009-2010. I also wish to claim an allowance of £XX and £X per year respectively for this tax period and the previous 2 years for providing my own shoes and tights which are of a prescriptive nature as outlined in the uniform policy provided to me by the organisation that I work for.
Although not compulsory, it is highly recommended that we, as community fire safety professionals, are part of a recognised professional union. I therefore wish to claim relief on my fees paid to UNISON who I am a member of. My yearly subscription to UNISON is £xx and I believe I am entitled to claim relief on 70% of this which equates to £xxx for this tax period, together with 2009-2010 and 2008-2009.
I would be grateful if any monies due to me are paid by PAYABLE ORDER and my tax code for future years adjusted accordingly.
Yours Faithfully
I hope it does the trick

Hi there,
We have just received payment from the Tax Office for my husband. He is getting back £34 for every year for the past six years.
For the sake of a letter it is worth going.0 -
If anyone has received this rebate could you let me know if you received the full 6 years and if so, did the tax office send it to you in cheques over a few days instead of one cheque in one envelope?
The tax office have accepted that I can claim and my tax code has been changed for this year, I've also just received one cheque for 2010-11 and the tax office have asked for my P60 for 2011-12. However, I've received nothing for the previous years. I have worked for the same firm for more than 6 years, surely if it's been accepted that I can reclaim then I should have received cheques for the other 3 years? I tried ringing the tax office but was kept on hold for over 20 minutes so gave up!Marya0
