scam with autotrade?

I sold my brothers old people mover last year for him for £6,000, guy called from Birmingham and said he wanted it that night, he called at 6pm. Told him to bring driving licence for ID but I guess that could of been forged.

Turned up with 4 of his mates at 1am with a hand full of cash, I checked the notes with a pen, uv light and rubbing the note on plain paper check it all seemed fine. Gave them a receipt and they drove it off, lucky I remembered to take out all the "no smoking" signs as it was an ex taxi.....dont think I told THEM tho...oops.

I did have a couple of back up chaps with me just incase they were doing the "baseball batt on the head" scam.

It was all fine and some of the notes were tested in a local 24 hour Tesco auto-tills before we paid in the cash, just in case.

There are genuine folk out there but it doesnt hurt to have a plan b when cash changes hands these days as theres are still scummers looking for the scam!!!!!

Thank you very much for all the good advice. One of the guys called again today, he'd told me the car was for his wife. Today I spoke with her and arranged for her husband to come on Monday to pick it up. She said he would pay cash so told her we would need to go to the bank to exchange and he therefore needed to come during bank opening times. She didn't hesitate and said that was ok, so am crossing my fingers! The car is a VW Touran, I think known to be good cars! Am getting a new modern French instead but I don't care, it's on hire lease so won't ever have to sell it

If you dont like the sound of someone then dont deal with them.
