£475 for parking ticket ? Help please

Hi
At 5pm this evening I answered the door to two men who told me they were there to execute a warrant for an unpaid parking ticket. It was a £50 council ticket which I disputed and then heard nothing until bailiffs were at my door. They were from a company called proserve? They blocked my car on my drive and told me they would give me 10 minutes to get the money together or they would clamp and tow my car adding hundreds onto the £475 bill. I received no breakdown of what the charges were for is this amount normal? I rang a relative and borrowed the money as they said they were about to clamp the car. They also told me that if I drove the car it would be flagged up by the police and I would be stopped?

I am now after being very intimidated by them (my 4 daughters saw the whole thing!) Im now wondering if this was right? Can anyone help?

I don't know how I am going to repay this money as I am on a very low income.
Any advice please?

Cant give advice but looks like its these

I thought you had to get a warning before notice could be given to impound your car. If they haven't followed procedure I would have thought what they did was illegal

Hi astraea, thats sounds horrible, you might be better asking in the Parking and fines section on the Motoring board as there are alot of very savvy people on there who will look at what has happened, ask the right questions and give you great advice :)

As this has been paid now I think it's limited what we can advise you on... sadly.

You might want to contact Herbie21 - she runs http://www.bailiffadviceonline.co.uk/ and if there is anything that can be done she'll know... Most of the time she knows more about the bailiff law than the bailiffs...

can't help wondering why you didn't dial 999 for the police and say there where men at your door demanding money and making threats.

maybe bacause they were bailiffs and they told me it was a court warrant?
  • Did you see the Court Warrant?

If it was genuine, you should have had notification from the court before any action was taken.

And the police wouldn't give a toss, and would not stop you for not paying a parking ticket. It wouldn't even be marked up on their systems.
