essential tarrif with BG

i thought i would mention this for all readers that are on essential tarrif with british gas. before the price increase there gas charges were the first 2680 units per year at the higher tarriff and all the rest of the units at a lower tarrif. now the higher tarrif number is the first 4572 units per year and the rest at the lower price. taken everything into account this works out more expensive than there websaver 13 when you adjust for discounts, also it is more expensive than most other energy suppliers on there best tarrif. people on essential tarrif also do not qualify for the £120 rebate as they are supposed to be on a cheaper tarrif, big con, dont take my word for it sit down and work it out yourself even british gas themselves admitted to me that i wasnt on the cheapest tarrif.

Last time I checked it was more than web saver but this year got £50 rebate

Also you can get the £120 rebate I asked last week I automatically qualify as we have a disabled person at home, I can switch tariffs too and still get £120

    essentials is

5.891p (ex. VAT) per kwh for the first 4572 kwh p.a. 6.186p (inc. VAT) per kwh
3.430p (ex. VAT) per kwh for the remaining usage 3.602p (inc. VAT) per kwh

As far as I know the essentials tariff has always been 4572 - it stayed the same when the other tariffs changed.

This isn't true. The WHD and essentials tariffs are independent and you can qualify for both (and many people will).

The Essential tariff will be withdrawn from peoples meters over the next few months but as Swanjon says there may be a crossover that for a short time people get both. Every Essentials Customer will be written to asking them to call and be assessed for the WHD so they do not need to call at this time.

These two do or did when I did it last month

    http://energy.energychoices.co.uk/
    http://www.ukpower.co.uk/home_energy

LOL @ the two BG reps thanking each other
  • I am on Essentials and received the £50 early this year due to me being on a low income, I rang them last week to ask about the £120 rebate and was told I wouldn't get it as I have been paying 10% less for my gas this year than other people were paying! I was also told that I would remain on this tariff until next July. Not sure what to make of it!
