me on jsa, partner becoming student and moing area

I knows theres a couple of other similar threads, but i cant seem to find exactly what im looking for.

Im just on JSA presently and my girlfriend works part time in a pharmacy. She is planning on going to uni and doing a pharmacy degree next year.
What happens with JSA if we move area, do i need to reapply or do i just tell them and go to the local job centre instead.
Also, would we be eligible for housing benefit seeing as she would get the maintenance loan.

Thanks

I'm not sure about JSA. I think you'd have to speak to your advisor and tell them you are moving so they can transfer your claim. Are you currently claiming JSA(CB) or JSA(IB)?

You may be able to claim low income benefits on behalf of yourself and your partner but your partner's student finance will be taken into account when assessing you for income based benefits.

University has only just started for this year, why on earth would you assume that you'll still be unemployed in 11 months' time?
  • Just a worst case scenario. We're both applying for jobs all over the country as we have no ties anywhere, but as the employment market is likely going to get worse rather than better, its good to have a firm plan in place

You might be better off waiting to see where/if she's offered a university place first.

If you're moving area they can just move your claim over to your new local job centre. However be aware that they will take your gf's maintenance loan into account as 'income' and will take it off whatever jobseekers you are getting. When I was on JSA with my OH being a student then I was only entitled to about £10 a week. We did get housing and council tax benefit though.

We just put an application to kingston in through ucas to make sure theres a place available if it comes to it.
She was looking at pharmacy technician jobs, which we hear they mostly recruit in March.
Ive nearly finised a science degree through the open university, so my opportunities will be a lot greater in a years time too.
I think ive got every eventuality covered.
