Transferring NCD from a car to a van

My husband was involved in an accident earlier this year, it was a scam accident but nevertheless he is liable, though its still currently pending.
As a result he lost his no claims and his van insurance has gone through the roof this year (over a grand - he's 35, no previous accidents/convictions). Last year it was about 400 quid!
He owns another car which he is insured for as the main driver. We are thinking of selling that car and transferring his NCD from the car to his van. He currently has 9+ years NC's on the car. I've just done a comparison and this would make his insurance drop by over 50%. He is self-employed so we have no choice but to keep his van.
Is this possible?

It's usually possible, but you can't transfer it back again. No one accepts van ncd on a car.
You'll still have to declare the claim etc, but it should go though ok.0 -
I would check it with the particular company concerned in advance.
I'm not saying it can't be done, simply that if you don't check and they don't accept it then what will happen is that the insurer will send a standard template letter saying your NCD proof has not been received.
You will think it's been lost in the post whereas they are saying it's not valid. You will resend. They will then say they need you to pay the policy without the NCD as it hasn't been proven or they will cancel and then you'll have to declare you've had insurance cancelled.
Not trying to scaremonger but we've seen it dozens of times all because of template letters, so I'd suggest a quick call beforehand to check they will accept it. Also take a note of the name of the person, date and time (phone calls can often be checked but only if you provide the date/time details).0
