Which One Then

Right fellow forumites. It's Gas/Electricity supplier switch time again. My current E-on contract ends 31-Oct and, after visiting the four main comparison sites, all of which give almost identical results, there is only about a £15 per year difference between the 3 cheapest, Scottish Power, Npower and Ovo.
Any suggestions or recommendations welcome as to which way to go!

I think it's a question of who not to go with

Heading that list is n'power as they have some strange habits. ie Like the one that pushes up your winter bills by chargeing more Prime units in winter than summer, and then there is the yearly cash back that gets them near to the top of the tables - You are paying for this with every D/D payment you make, but won't get it if you move house or supplier, or fail to pay 12 consecutive D/D's

Scottish Power ? They do take flak on this site, but are really no worse than all the other Big Boys

OVO? Relative newcomer with good reports on this site from customers, though I do wonder about their accounting - Interest on Credit balances?
  • I have just left Scottish Power although I did not find them too bad, their online system I found very good compared to npower's which was very basic.
Do not know anything about OVO but of the other 2 I would say SP.

I agree with this. I've recently switched from Scottish Power to Npower, purely for pricing reasons. SP have since matched the offer, and I would happily go back. They are easy and pleasant to deal with in my experience.

I would have thought that's the most important reason to switch. I switched to Npower's Online 20 plan from EDF, whom I had been with for some years and found I'm saving a considerable amount providing I stay with them for at least a year on DD. Npower's customer service is better too.I don't have a problem with them or their website.

With Npower, a lot depends on how much gas or electric you use. In my case I use a lot more electric than gas, and being on Economy 7 the deal overall works out cheaper than other suppliers. That wouldn't have been the case had I been a heavy gas user and lighter on electric.
