what's the correct or more appropriate terminology to use for a business run online via say a third party like Amazon - is it 'online retail'; 'e-commerce' 'home based' etc?? Thanks in advance.

All of them are potentially accurate, the first two are and the final one would be if you work from home.
Which one you would use would depend on who you are talking to, what message you are trying to communicate and if you want to under or over state the enterprise.0
