Fish and Chips

Hello
The main part of my budget is the catering.
A sit down meal is going to cost alot, even though it's only for about 40 people.
I think Fish and Chips would be fun.
Anyone else done this and got some tips please?
I know a lovely local chippy. Is it just a case of asking before hand, if they could do food for 40 and have it ready for pick up (or possible deliver)
And would you put on the invitation, what meal they would like?
It would save us a lot of money and would be different!
The venue we are having is ok with outside caterers (it's a bowling club that has a function hall)

I think thats a great idea! If I was a guest at a wedding and that was the meal I would love it - wish I'd thought of it for mine!! I would definitley give them the choice of two or three options via the invitations. Speak to your local chippy and see what he can offer - he will probably be grateful of the extra business.0

We had a fish and chips meal (quite accidentally) in the marquee the night before our wedding. Was really nice, actually...everyone loves some F+Cs

(we did, also, have mini fish and chips as one of our canap!s

Good idea. Whilst a wedding is a wonderful time I never see point in spending so much. When I got married in 1989 (22 years next month) we did it as cheap as we could we did have a Rolls Royce for car but had reception in a pub and no after event. We didnt even have a honeymoon we choose to spend what money we had on house which we moved in day we got married. I moved stuff day before into house
My wife had dress made by her gran too we didn't spend much at all0 -
Thanks everyone! I want to keep it cheap, but hassle free.
We only have a small family and a couple of very close friends who will be with us for the ceremony and meal, drinks, afterwards.
Then stay in the same place and start the evening "do" at 7 for our friends, a few neighbours and workmates.
Bet there are not much more at night really!
Evening is a traditional buffet, sandwiches, sausage rolls, salad etc!0 -
I would love that!
I really wanted bangers and mash at my wedding but my MIL said that was rubbish so went of rthe normal roast - I still get annoyed now! hahaha!
Ooh they may even have a chip van they could deliver it is!
ooooh craving F & C now! xx0 -
Hi,
I think it's a great idea. I would speak to the fish & chip shop beforehand & see what different things they could offer you & then you could give people an option. You might have to get someone to go pick them up or if your lucky they might deliver them. The only problem I see with offering different things is been able to get them served up to the right people without them going cold. Anyway i'd love it:DMarried the man of my dreams - 10th September 2012, St Paul's Bay Lindos :jIt was amazing.

My Mum and sister went to a wedding and it was fish and chips that were served up and if my memory serves me right they were served in newspaper that was specially made with articles about the bride and groom. This would add to costs though. I will ask tomorrow what the set up was.
I know initially I was not impressed when I heard and it is the last thing I would have thought of from the bride and groom concerned and their families but Mum and sis were most impressed!0 -
Think it would be easy enough to organise for 40 - give people 3/4 options - fish, chicken, veggie burger then just keep a spreadsheet of who gets what and get the BM/ushers to dish them out. Buy half a dozen pots of the various sauces and you're good to go.0

We are also doing this. The chip shop will cater and deliver if we order enough, n will provide the sauces, chip forks etc. so definitely worth asking around. We are going to keep it simple, and on the invites just say let us know if you want cod or pea fritter with chips. Then order the right amount!

Sounds like great fun! If you can't get the local chippy to deliver, why not have a van come to you! Googled and this was the 1st one to come up. Don't know them, no information, no recommendation - literally just the first to come up!!
Yum. xIf you have nothing constructive to say just move along.0
