One of our miniature smooth hairs has pyro derma, a bacterial skin condition. She has fuciderm cream from the vet and hibiscrub to wash her. The poor little mite has antibiotic injections when its really bad but I wondered if there was anything else we could do homoeopathic wise or just old style to make her comfortable or to help prevent the reoccurence of this? Ive read about teabags and poultices to put on the areas and raw food diets and I'm confused. Is there anything, anyone else has tried which may help? TIA

Edit to say she is fed on chappie which has no soya, diary or egg in it.

  • Pyoderma rarely happens on its own - there is usually an underlying skin disease (for example mites, allergies etc) causing inflammation. Once the skin is inflamed and the dog keeps licking/scratching, bacterial infection sets in afterwards.

The antibiotics should eliminate the pyoderma, but you need to address the underlying cause and this will vary. I suggest you speak to your vet about your concerns as they will be able to make the best recommendation based on your dog - every dog's case is different.
