I'm helping someone organise a leaflet drop and it seems very hard to find a map that shows the boundaries of postcode areas and/or the individual sectors without paying quite a bit for it.
Is this info available free anywhere or do I have to bite the bullet and pay?

You could try idealmaps.yolasite.com (sorry, I can't post links as I'm a new member).
You do have to pay to get the maps, but I think they are the cheapest available online.0
