Thunderbird forwards Emails OK to iPhone, but can they remain marked as unread on PC?

Hi all
I have set up Thunderbird to forward my Emails to my iPhone 4. This works perfectly well, and while I am out and about I can access my Emails succesfully. However, when I get back to my desk I see that because Thunderbird has forwarded the message to my iPhone it is now marked as 'read' on my PC. I would like to know if Thunderbird is capable of actually sending the messages to my iPhone AND not mark the messages as read on my PC until I actually read them on my PC. Basically, I still want the messages forwarding to my iPhone, but I don't want them marked as 'Read' on my PC.
Hope someone can help. xx

Where are you getting your emails from? Your ISP? Yahoo? Gmail?
Check if your provider allows IMAP emails and amend your Thunderbird setup to this. Then set up your iphone to get the emails direct from the same provider using IMAP.
That way your emails will be in synch regardless of where you action them. If you read them on your phone they will show as read in Thunderbird and vice versa. If you delete them from one place they will also delete from the other. Depending on your setup, there should be no need to forward emails use IMAP if you can.
(IMAP is just another way of getting your emails, You are probably using a POP setup at the mo.)0 -
If you are using POP3, which is the older methodology, then your server simply holds the email and doesn't record state so the server simply has it or doesnt have it, it doesn't record if its been read or not etc. The message is simply held locally and your email client deals with filing, statuses etc etc
IMAP on the other hand has much more communication with the email client and so does hold its status, which folder it is in etc. The other advantage of using IMAP is that when you send a mail from one client it will show in the "Sent" file on all your mail clients. I quote sent because some different clients use slightly different names for the folder so you end up with more than one folder (I have "Sent Items" and "Sent Message" as I use four different clients)0
