URGENT Disabled & elderly coach concessions ending soon

The government is scrapping the 50% coach concessions for the disabled and people over 60, from the 31st October. To avoid the price hikes, you can book until then at the reduced price for coach travel until 31st August 2012. You book through National Express.

If you want to take action, National Express has a campaign of writing letters to MPs. For more info, and to get a sample letter, go to their website homepage and click on 'Coaches' then look for the link titled 'Government cuts concessionary fares'. I'm a newbie so can't post links yet, sorry.

I cannot understand why just because you are disabled or elderly, people think that they should have to pay less than anyone else.

I'm both elderly AND disabled, and I don't expect a company to give me any special privilidges such as a reduction in the fare.
Just because people that fall into those categories doesn't mean to say that they can't afford the full fare.

Why not give the unemployed the same privilidge, the single mums on benefit?

It's no better than those that demand a reduction in car parking fees because they are disabled.

The only thing that the disabled need is ACCESS to transport, car parks etc, not a reduction in fees!

    No, they don't.

Those in receipt of the high-rate mobility component of DLA, or if they would qualify for this if they applied, can get certain benefits such as free bus travel.

This is far from all disabled people.

Prescriptions are free for all in scotland.
