Damp smell from carpet

We have a stain (possibly urine the culprit no longer lives in our house) on the carpet which smells. We used rug doctor and it is better but has not gone.

Any ideas? I was thinking of trying bicarbonate of soda.

Depends what you mean by a stain. Small patch, once or twice, may work with repeated carpet cleaner or bicarb.

If it was a more long term, recurring, widespread job may need to lift, dispose, replace. In bad cases may need the ubnderlying floorboards replaced.

It may be that the underlay has absorbed the damp / smell.

Its probably soaked into the underlay and maybe the floorboards so you won't know until you have a look.

explumber

mix up a solution of biological washing powder.
lift carpet and underlay. wash floorboards/concrete first.
then wash both sides of underlay, and finish by washing both sides of carpet. do not relay underlay or carpet until dry.
