Help with font size please

Have just had my desktop formatted and the font is too small.

I have the monitor settings at the recommended size (1600x1200)

I also have the font size set to highest, but its still not good enough. The page % is set to 100%, when I increase this it makes the page too wide.

Can someone please direct me to how to make the font bigger.

TIA

Can we assume that before 'formatting' it was fine?

What do you mean by 'formatting'? Do you mean the visible Desktop as referred to by Windows, or your Desktop in the sense of reformatting the hard drive on a desktop PC as opposed to Laptop?

Is it XP, Vista or Windows 7?
Also, is everything too small in general or just things like menu options that are now harder to read?

  • I had everything wiped off and Vista put back on again.

Everything is small including the menus.

Did you install drivers for your monitor?

Sounds like you had a different screen resolution before.
There are instructions here for changing it in Vista: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/84291-screen-resolution.html
Won't hurt to experiment. You can always put it back where it was, just make a note of the current settings when you start.

    I never installed any drivers.

Do you have a drivers disc that came with the PC originally (assuming you're using the original monitor), or a disc that came with the monitor (if you've replaced the monitor with a new one)

It's been years since I've installed any specific driver for a monitor. These days they are just about all plug and play and use he default Microsoft driver on windows.

I don't have Vista but a quick look at the display properties on this XP netbook shows some specific font size choices but there is also a "custom" option to change it to pretty much anything you want - I don't see MS removing that ability so it's just a case of hunting around in the display properties window to find it. Hope you can read it OK :)
