Help with Microsoft Office 2007

Help with MICROSOFT OFFICE 2007 on my laptop, please.

In April 2010 I bought a new Toshiba Satellite L500-1XC (2048 MB, 320GB) with WINDOWS7 and loaded with a 60 day free trial of Office 2010.
When the free trial came to an end I did not opt for the permanent version. Eventually I bought a brand new copy of “Office Home and Student 2007” as I really only wanted WORD 2007. Since loading this software I find it does work up to a point but there are some significant incompatibilities with my operating system.

1. When I click on the WORD icon it will not open directly. A box opens saying “Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this computer?” When I click on “yes” Microsoft Word opens up.
2.If I try to open WORD documents from my Library, first I get the same box as above and when I click on “Yes” I get another box saying “There was a problem sending the command to the program, and this is immediately overlaid by WORD opening up. I can then search for and open the document.
3. I cannot open WORD documents attached to emails.
When I loaded and registered this software I was using IE (64 bits I think), but now I use Firefox.
What have I done wrong? Is this the best I can expect?

Open it ONCE by using right-click, Open as Administrator. It is likely trying to write some data to the registry or a non-user editable area. Let it open up fully and from then on open it as you normally would.
  • Try checking the Program Properties.

RIGHT click on the Word Icon and select "Properties"

    Click on the "Compatibility" tab

Make sure that BOTH Compatibility Mode and Privilege Level check boxes are Unchecked.

  • You'll regret going for 2007.

Office 2010 is to 2007 as Windows 7 is to Vista - all the good without the bad; the package which should have been released.
I'm dreaming of a white Christmas.

Thank you so much. It now works perfectly. When I checked "properties" I found that WORD was running in compatibility mode for WINDOWS XP. I've now changed this to WINDOWS 7 and all is well.

Have you ever used 2010? it's one of the worst changes they made.
