Advice needed re:BT

I took out a 12 month contract with BT in February for a landline, Broadband and BT vision. We are now moving house in less than 2 weeks and when I rung up to tell them they said that due to the fact an engineer would have to come out I would have to start a new contract....for 18 months! I did agree to this as I assumed there was no way out of this without penalty (however, she did say I have the right to cancel up until the day before the transfer) but if I was to cancel now I would still have 4 months left of the contract remaining. Having thought about it more I'm not happy at having to take out a contract for 18 months as we were hoping to transfer our services when the contract ended due to the cost but also I received an email from them yesterday informing of the upcoming price increases!
Is there anything I can do to get out of this?

The requirement for an 18 month contract is probably so that the £130 installation at the new property is eliminated or reduced. Pay the installation and a standard 12 month contract will probably apply.

You are still liable for the remainder of your exisiting contract and penalty charges will apply if you simply default on it.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
