hi & welcome lemmings! yup NSD is exactly that & low spend day - when you keep ur spending as minimal as possible. I totally hear what you are saying re groceries but I am thinking that the cost of things has risen steeply. This time last year I was able to get our monthly food down to around £160 for 3 adults with a lot of planning & shopping around. On Saturday I nearly fell off of my chair when the bill came to £88 for a week - have had to speak to oh & we now have to start putting more in each monthDF as at 30/12/16

Welcome Lemmings, LSD = low spend day; NSD = no spend day!
 Today:
Just back from L*nd*n for the fifth day in a row and got to go back on Friday  Apologies to those who live there, and I don't mind it at all as a place, but it is a 2 hour journey for me, with work in between, and I get shattered when it is so frequent and got to go back on Friday  Apologies to those who live there, and I don't mind it at all as a place, but it is a 2 hour journey for me, with work in between, and I get shattered when it is so frequent I can't believe it is only Wednesday  I can't believe it is only Wednesday
Still, on the plus side, I have next week off as leave , if I ever get away on Friday that is  , if I ever get away on Friday that is
So, not much moneysaving going on here, but:
Leftovers for lunch on the train
OH dropped me at the station as he was going that way anyway
Free papers on train, plus meeting papers to read, of course
OH cooking supper - stuffed jacket potatoes
Not doing much this evening, and will try to get an early night. I might look at a ob description I have been sent in another team though - looks interesting and might be slightly less hectic! I have been messed about at work for the past year (almost) and have been covering almost 2 complete work packages This might be a new start - or would I hat not being involved in what I currently do?? Hmm... knowing me though I would probably end up taking a lot of it with me anyway :rotfl: 0 This might be a new start - or would I hat not being involved in what I currently do?? i know i didnt realise i had spent that much hope you dont mind me asking but do you all have a set budget of what you think, would like to spend on food, grocerys a month and then try to stick to it.my cupboards are quite full and freezer is full so am going to try and eat out of my cupboards and make me and oh pack up everyday for work its quite hard as i work mostly earlys and easily do 50 hrs a week unfortunatly not payed for most of it (training to be a manager) and oh works nights so hard to plan meals i dont need anything this week apart milk so from monday am planning to budget £10 for next week just for milk and catfood. i think i have proberly got enough food for the next month and i have got all the ingrediants to make my own bread so will do that instead of buying it.VSP#17 £2.34

when I was getting our fod bill down to £160pm I was doing a variety of cost cutting - planning out meals, having 1 night a week meat free, going through mysupermarket.com to find out the prices in sainsburys & asda and then going to lidl & aldi, if they were cheaper there I would get them or if not pop to where they are (we are lucky we live near to 4 supermarkets), stretching meat dishes out by adding lentils & veg. I haven't been as disciplined recently but clearly given how expensive everything is now & inflation is going up I will need to start doing this.
Most weeks I do an inventory of what we have & then planning out the meals around this. What I'm really bad with is if say we have something with sour cream one night I need to plan something the following night with it so I don't end up throwing half away. I will invest some time in this this week!
