I kept both my kids coming home outfits and thats it :o when DS was born pretty much everything was second hand, the cot, the buggy, the moses basket (family one) only things I bought new were the car seat and clothes.

DD had everything new, which tbh was a complete waste of money :o. As soon as they were old enough I sold everything as I dont have the room to store it all anyway.

  • We had three kidlets in the space of three years and reused most things for each, except for cots as they were still in them and buggies(yes my name is bumpmakesfour and I'm a buggyholic :p).
Anyway(!) when we decided to try for a fourth it just wasn't happening and after a couple of years we ended up giving away pretty much everything...buggies/cot/bumbo/highchair/bouncer..the LOT ...as it was just taking up space and looked like it'd never be needed by us again.Only thing I kept hold of was a big bag of girls clothes I just couldn't part with.
After over 4 and a half years of trying here I am 29+5 with bump number 4 and once we got that positive test realised we had nothing whatsoever and had to start over:rotfl:Oh yes and just to really top it off..the one useful thing I kept..the girls clothes..are useless as we're having a baby boy:p

so sorry i know i shouldnt have but i did laugh at that! that will probably be me in a few years if i do decide to have another baby! knowing my luck ill end up pg with triplet girls!!

Haa!!I was going to give the girls clothes away but then thought...bet you if I do that the sonographer will turn out to be wrong.I'll give all the girls clothes away and on the big day my "blue" bump will turn out to have been pink all along :rotfl:
Slightly mad mummy to four kidlets aged 4 months,6,7 and 8 :D:D:D xx
  • Stick it in the attic/shed if you have one.

Or...lend it to someone nice and make it clear you want it back from the outset.

I've wasted loads of money re-buying stuff. What you get for it second hand won't make that up.

I gave all of my stuff away after I had my second to my nanny. I didn't fall pregnant again with my third until her little one was 5, and I was a bit sad that I wouldn't have any of my old stuff for sentimental reasons, especially the moses basket. So imagine my surprise when as soon as she heard that I was pregnant again she told me she had kept it all just in case. I got just about everything back except the pushchair which had been driven into the ground after use by 3 kids and the car seat. I also got given a lot of stuff by other friends who had by then finished their families so baby was very well kitted out. Very shortly before I gave birth to my third, the nanny discovered she was pregnant too, so all the early baby stuff including the moses basket went back to her when my baby had outgrown them, and when she left us to move away, they came back to me again in case we have a fourth. By which point I suspect everything could be ready for landfill after 6 children's use!

Personally I would keep most things if I was planning another soon. We kept everything after our first, we have 2 dds with a 2 year gap, but now I'm getting rid of stuff as we're not intending to have any more children.
  • ive just had this issue, although im single at the min. Ive moved and unpacked the last box from my move yesterday-it was all the baby sheets and cellular blankets from having my 2 munchkins. my son has recently turned 3 and my daughter is 5, but im adamant at some point in the future-when my mr right decides to put in an appearance (please let that be soon!!!!)-i want at least one more baby so i cant bear to get rid of any of the blankets/sheets. I am also keeping the graco contour electra travel cot that i got for bargin price of £15 off ebay when my son was born, its taking up next to no room in my outhouse. The sheets/blankets are all folded up in a box at the bottom of my wardrobe now. clothes moses baskets etc i got rid of as my ex didnt leave until my son was 1, so theyre all long gone, but im a bargin hunter, ebay charity shops and car boots will provide me with everything i need. Im soooo broody at the min, i love looking at pushchairs/cots/baby stuff on ebay lol.
  • If your planning another in the next two years it would be best to keep a hold of it all, or as others have said lend it to a friend on the promise that you get it back, it will save you both alot of money(my sisters done this and it worked great for them, its gives you the space back and then when they are done with it if you dont want it back give it to charity) I made the mistake of getting rid of some of my baby things as soon as they were done with due to not having space, DS is now one and currently 16 weeks with no. 2 so having to buy again (second hand as i dont see the point on spending a fortune and second hand is just as good and moneysaving ;) )
  • Hi alwaysbrassic

I am currently pregnant with number 2 - my DS is 3. I kept cot, highchair, pram, moses basket etc as I knew I wanted another. After thisone however I will be selling/giving away depending on condition as I do not plan on anymore - if it does happen I will just have to get replacements lol. I will have had use for 2 baby's out of the things so can't complain at that.
