We have 2 iphone4 handsets in my household and use one itunes account but 2 seperate computers.
Yesterday I updated my iphone to os5.
OH had already done his a week ago.
Since I've updated my phone yesterday he's started receiving all the txts I send! - lol. He says its something to do with the os5 all devices.
Does anyone know how we can stop it! I don't want to send txts at mo as don't want him to read them - LOL.
Thanks anyone.

are you sure they're texts? doesn't OS5 use iMessenger or something like that if it's OS5 to OS5?
If it is iMessenger rather than texts then you sign in using your email address; so in computer terms, you're logging into MSN on two different PC's with the same email address and sharing messages.
I think!0 -
Sort of. With IOS 5 texts will be sent as an iMessage (telltale is that the text box is light blue when displaying a text conversation) by default, if this fails then it will be sent as a regular text message. All devices configured to use the same Apple ID will then receive the iMessage and subsequent replies etc.
So the fix for this is to use different Apple IDs on each device.0 -
Thank you everyone.
It is imessage that are going to both handsets.
How do I create a new apple id as I don't want to set up 2 seperate itunes accounts as we use one credit card. If we set up 2 accounts then I imagine it will be tricky to transfer our apps and music to the right phone. I hope someone can help. thanks.0 -
You can sync on one computer and use the 'master' apple ID to download and pay for applications.
Create another account and just use that to log into iMessage on the iPhone. That is what I do, I have the main account and authorised my computer with iTunes. The two iPhones are plugged into that. My wife has another Apple account and only ever uses that to set up the notifications.

Am I able to do as you suggest still if we don't sync to one computer? The other pc is some miles aways at the weekday home for OH so he can get work. So he syncs to his there. I sync to mine here.
Thanks.0 -
you can run different devices on the same itunes account and have separate ids for facetime & imessenger.
you need to go into settings -> imessenger or facetime and you see 'receive at' or 'you can be reached for video calls at'... and here you need to enter a unique email such that you can communicate between the different devices even though the apple id is the same.
the default address is the one of the apple id - thats why you both see the same messages. once you add a 2nd address (and verify it), you can remove the first address from the list on one of the phones.0 -
Apologies but my imessages are not been received by him. It seems he didn't explain it to me properly (thats my opinion1). What we've both got is all all our own contacts and eachothers. He also has got all of my calendar appointments but he doesnt put any in so he hasnt got any of his own just mine. I've got my calendar appointements as well. Is all this resolved by chnaging the e-mail addresses in settings? thanks again to anyone who can help!0

it's because you are both sharing the same iCloud account, the best way to solve this is for on of you to create another apple ID and then use that new one as their iCloud account, while the other person uses the other apple ID you already have.
using itunes you both can still use the same apple ID to buy apps and you can redownload them on both computers using the 'purchased' section in the itunes store.
doing that will also solve your iMessage problem.
another option is to turn off the calendar and contacts syncing in iCloud settings (thus solving your duplicate contacts) and then go into 'messages' settings and then under the iMessage options there is 'recieve at' delete the apple ID email address, therefore leaving your phone number (which is unique to both of you).
personally the first option for you both to use a different apple ID for iCloud and the same apple ID for itunes purchases is the best option, therefore you can both use the different features of iCloud independent of each other yet only have to buy an app once. (in settings you can change the apple ID you are signed into for the itunes store)0
