Kebab Konumdrum

This isn't really a rant, more of a question really.
After reading yesterday about the 160 people who suffered food poisoning from a kebab shop, I was wondering why this doesn't happen more often.
Donner kebabs are cut from an enormous skewer of meat that could have been on there for weeks being continuously reheated day after day.
I had assumed that there was so much spice in the meat that bacteria couldn't grow on it. But you can now get chicken donner kebabs where there is an enormouse stack of chicken on the skewer.
I must admit, I eat kebabs on a regular basis (normally after a visit to the pub) and haven't to my knowledge suffered food poisoning.

I think the reason is that actually most kebab shops stick to the rules and follow hygene regs, so their meat isn't as bacteria ridden as a lot of jokes make it out to be! Actually the "elephant leg" isn't reheated night after night; the bit on the outside is cut off and thrown away so the bit that's left hasn't been heated, and it is then discarded.
I agree with you, I've never got food poisoning from a kebab and don't think I've known anyone who has either.0 -
Probably the reason you have never got sick after eating a kebab is all the alcohol in your body would kill any bacteria in the food. After a session you can probably eat anything and not get sick...lol......After ten pints i dont even know where i am let alone what i,ve eaten.......I think their made out of horse meat,,,,,
 :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

'I think their made out of horse meat,,,,,'
I hate to tell you all this ...... but i will
We had a Turkish lodger for a while and he told us about the 'Lamb' kebabs in the shops.
Notice i said 'Lamb' .............;)
From what i was told it is actually a pig
the whole thing is just stuck in a machine and crushed.... bones and all !!!
Don't know if it's a fact or not but it done the trick, i haven't touched one since and that's been about 2 years !!0 -
I've been studying Turkish for the last 14 months. If you go to a kebab shop and they are indeed Turks, ask for a "Belesh" or "Torpilli" kebap. That means you want a free one#39 - Save £12k in 20250
