hi there

a friend of mine is a butcher.

he started work on the 4th oct 2010 and was served notice (28 days) on the 3rd oct 2011

So he has been served notice a day before one year, will he be entitled to redundancy?, as whilst he is working his notice period he will have worked there just over a year? or is it because he was served notice a day before working a year he is not entiitled to any

many thanks

It's 2 complete years for a redundancy payment I think. So I think the answer is no.

He won't be due any statutory redundancy pay because of the 2 year rule. But if the company he works for has their own redundancy scheme it's possible that may pay out for less time worked, in which case I would expect him to be entitled to 1 year's worth as by the time his notice expires he will have worked more than 1 year.
