Have a look on the pet forums - there's a sticky with lots of info on pet insurance and the pro and cons of the different types.
No-one can tell you how much it will cost - it depend on where you live, the age and breed of the dogs, their previous health, and which type of insurance you go for.
Cheaper insurance tends to cover you for a specific amount for a year, but after that any illnesses will be excluded so you won't be covered if the dog gets an ongoing condition. For life cover is better as any illnesses will be covered in future years, but it is more expensive. There will also be an excess to pay on any claim, and sometimes a percentage of the final bill. I would advise insurance if you don't think you can afford to pay bills without it. My dog costs me hundreds every year in medication because she has had ongoing health problems from when she was quite young.
There is no specific insurance for benefits/ low income. Some people may qualify for cheaper treatment from organisations such as the PDSA, but you have to live in the catchment area and there are no guarantees. My aunt who is on benefits used the PDSA but the one nearest her closed so she had to go to an ordinary vet and pay the full charges.
Without wanting to be patronising, have you looked into how much it might cost to keep 2 dogs, even if they don't get ill?All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
