Switching suppliers which tariff should I be charged?
Options
Because of the price increase to the Click Energy tariff, I am in the process of switching suppliers from BG to Scottish Power.
I remember when I switched from Powergen to BG because of a price increase, Powergen said that I would remain in the old tariff because I had notified them within 14 days of the change.
Got my letter with the new Click Energy tariffs from BG yesterday, called them up and explained that I was switching to Scottish Power, explained why and also that I had started the process about 10 days ago when the prices actually went up (January 8th). I asked them whether I would remain in the old tariff until the switch was completed but they said no. Is this right? I've tried the Energy watch website but couldn't find anything regarding this...
I would have thought that if Powergen were doing this it was common practice?

British Gas have always done the same when they increase their standard tariff, but you have to contact them within 14 days of the announcement of the price increase. From the date you contact them you have 28 days for the switch to go through. As the increase was announced back in December and yesterday was 20th Jan, you will have missed out on the window.0

Yes but I initiated the switch on the 8th and only found out about the increase at the end of december0

It was only toward the end of December the announcement was made. The problem is that you didn't notify them at the time, or even when you arranged the switch - It's a month now since they announced the increase and almost two weeks since you arranged the switch. You could call energywatch, but I very much doubt there's anything they'll be able to do.0
