Halifax CC declined in USA

Not as bad as it sounds....
Just had a long weekend in New York and took my Halifax CC with me for the no commission spending most transactions went through alright except a few:
I used my card to purchase Subway tickets from the automated machines daily, these machines simply want your card 'dipped' (swiped) in the reader and your zip code entered. With a previous issuer I used 99999 as a default code and it worked however with the Halifax I did check before I went and they said this wasn't required. Infact they had never heard of such a system!
Anyway the first 2 transactions daily went through using this method but after that they were all declined! Halifax seem unable to tell me what the problem is and they still say they have never heard of any unattended terminal using this method.
It is very common in the US but the Halifax seem totally unaware! Anyone any ideas about this???

These are my thoughts and no one else's, so like any public forum advice - check it out before entering into contracts or spending your hard earned cash!
I don't know everything, however I do try to point people in the right direction but at the end of the day you can only ever help yourself!

Have you tried just the numerical digits in your postcode its more likely being declined as the system cant validate.0
-
Have you asked Halifax if theres a security marker on your card ? Quite possible if you kept trying to use it once it had declined.0

I used my Halifax card in NYC last month on those terminals and it was fine. I either put any old number in or left it.0

There was no marker on the card as I did check and it was working in attended terminals. It wouldn't let me leave the digits out so had no option.
It wasn't to much of an issue as I had back ups available but was surprised when Halifax had no idea how to overcome the issue, my other creditcard issuer told me to use all the nines as the zip code. These are my thoughts and no one else's, so like any public forum advice - check it out before entering into contracts or spending your hard earned cash!

I don't think it's a Halifax problem. It could potentially happen to any foreign card.
I've had cards rejected on the NY Metro. It seems you can't use the same card more than once in the same machine for 'security' reasons.
Another reason to take more than one card!0 -
That's what I thought, but I found I could do two transactions together then none until the next day. Didn't have that issue with my other card.
No big issue really but it was the first time I had used that particular card as I normally use a different brand. These are my thoughts and no one else's, so like any public forum advice - check it out before entering into contracts or spending your hard earned cash!
