RAM upgrade question

My comp details

Motherboard: ASUS A7V8X-MX
cpu duron: 1.6
Current memory: 256MB, made by elixir, DDR 400 (3200PC), two slots in total, one available

Im looking to buy another 256MB to fill the other slot.

i have scanned my computer using crucial.com and it suggests i can use either 2700pc or 3200pc or 4000pc. However bearing in mind the memory already installed, can i use pc2100 or pc2400 as it seems to be cheaper? Also would the computer be significantly slower if i installed the cheaper RAM?

Comments

  • You can use different RAM. Do remember that the lowest speed will decide what the higher one runs at.
This country is called Great Britain. It would be called Amazing Britain if it wasn't for people like you pulling the average down
  • well that chip only has a fsb of 133mhz so you only need the pc2100 ram anything else is overkill and won't make a difference.
